Solingen: Public prosecutors raise murder charges against mother after killing five children

After the killing of five of her six children, the public prosecutor charged a mother from Solingen with murder. It is still unclear whether the woman was possibly less responsible at the time of the crime.

The case caused horror nationwide: Last September, five dead children were discovered in an apartment in Solingen.

The three girls and two boys were between one and a half and eight years old.

Now the public prosecutor in Wuppertal has charged the children's mother with fivefold murder.

This was announced by a spokesman.

The woman's defense attorney had been informed.

According to the results of the investigation, the 27-year-old at the time of the crime first stunned and then suffocated her children.

It has not yet been determined whether the accused had a reduced culpability at the time of the offense, it said.

Now the Wuppertal regional court has to decide on the admission of the indictment.

The five dead children were discovered on September 3 last year.

Another eleven-year-old son of the woman had survived.

The suspect mother had thrown herself in front of a train in Düsseldorf Central Station, but survived seriously injured.

The arrest warrant for suspected murder had been opened to her in a hospital bedside clinic.

The woman's defense attorney was initially unavailable for comment on Friday.
