Thomas Drach remains in custody for the time being in Amsterdam.

A judge extended the detention for the former kidnapper of the tobacco heir Jan Philipp Reemtsma again on Friday, said a court spokeswoman for the dpa news agency.

As reported by the dpa, the court had not yet dealt with the extradition request from the Cologne judiciary.

When this should happen is still unclear, according to the spokeswoman.

The Dutch authorities extended the fixing of Drachs for the first time on Wednesday.

Procedure could take several months

The court originally stated that the extradition should be discussed this Friday.

The extradition process can take up to 90 days, the spokeswoman said.

The court hearings are not public.

The 60-year-old Drach was arrested on Tuesday in the Dutch capital.

He is suspected of being involved in three robberies in Cologne and Frankfurt am Main in 2018 and 2019.

A security guard was seriously injured in a robbery.

The investigators had found Drach via an escape vehicle that was registered in the Netherlands.

There is still a search for possible accomplices.

About 25 years ago, Drach and his helpers kidnapped the Hamburg heir of the tobacco dynasty, Jan Philipp Reemtsma, and collected millions of euros for it.

Two years later, in 1998, Drach was caught in the Argentine capital Buenos Aires and sentenced to fourteen and a half years in prison in Hamburg in 2000.

He served this sentence in autumn 2013.
