ANALYSIS

- In the space of a week, cases of SarsCoV2 virus infection in Italy increased by 29% and admissions to intensive care units rose by 21%: these are "important increases" and could be the indicator of a third wave: this is what emerges from the analysis of the data of the last seven days conducted by physicist

Giorgio Sestili

, founder of the Facebook page 'Coronavirus-Scientific data and analysis' and of the science communication network 'giorgiosestili.it'.

The 29% increase in cases over the previous seven days is "an important increase as cases had stabilized in the previous five weeks."

From more up-to-date calculations of the Rt contagion index than those of the Istituto Superiore di Sanità, which indicate 0.99 and which are based on data from two weeks ago, a value of 1.2 is also found at national level.

"These are worrying increases. There are - observes Sestili - all the elements to think that the recovery of the infections has begun and that it can go on for weeks. The question is: to what extent will they increase? Of course - he concludes - whatever measures are taken today it cannot take effect before 15 and 20 days ".
