Real stores are being renamed: customers will have to adapt to changes shortly

After the sale of the Real stores last year, things are now moving very quickly.

As early as April, the Saarland Globus Group took over the first stores in Germany.

Last year, the Russian investor SCP bought the ailing hypermarket chain Real with its around 270 stores in order to break it up and sell it at a profit.

The Bundeskartellamt is particularly concerned about the sale of numerous branches to the supermarket giants Edeka and Kaufland, as market power could mean a disadvantage for consumers and suppliers;

But it seems that SCP has found a way to dispel the competition law doubts: With a sale to the medium-sized retail chain Globus, SCP is apparently trying to dispel the Federal Cartel Office's concerns.

Real becomes Globus: From April 16 branches will get a new face

As the

food newspaper

reports, the Saarland Globus group's takeover plans are likely to be for 16 Real branches.

The internal letter that the newspaper has received also states that markets in North Rhine-Westphalia in particular will be affected by the takeover.

It all starts with the market halls in Braunschweig, Lower Saxony, and in Krefeld.

According to information from the

newspaper, the flag change will begin on April 25, before the opening will take place on May 10.

The two branches, however, only mark the beginning: Globus will probably take over a location in Essen in autumn, before Real locations in Wittlich and Siegen follow in autumn.

By the end of May 2022, eleven other former Real stores in Germany are to have the Globus logo on the facade.

Real smashing: With markets, certain goods also disappear from the range

For customers, the takeover of the Real branches by Globus also means a change on the shelves, as Globus is unlikely to include Real's own brands in its own range.

While the sales areas are likely to change significantly, the Real employees are hoping for the takeover by the Saarland company.

After the Federal Cartel Office decided at the end of last year that Globus could take over the Real branches, Jochen Baab, spokesman for the Globus SB-Warenhaus management, was optimistic: “The decision sends out a good signal for customers as well as for Real’s employees -Markets.
