David Vencl, already holder of the static freediving record in his country, broke the world record by swimming nearly 80.9 m under the ice.
According to Guinness office criteria, he had to swim under a layer of ice at least 30 cm thick.

To prepare, he swam regularly or stayed in cold water and wore light clothing even in severe frost. He also took baths in a barrel on his balcony with salt water at -3 or -4 degrees Celsius. His record for static apnea, or going underwater in a single breath, is nearly eight minutes.
