Thousands of pigs died in a major fire in a fattening facility in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania.
One of the three stable buildings of the facility in Kobrow east of Schwerin burned down to the ground on Sunday, as the Rostock police headquarters announced.
"Of the approximately 9,000 fattening pigs kept, a total of 6,000 pigs were saved from the flames," the message says.
During the operation, a total of 110 firefighters with 20 emergency vehicles were on site to bring the flames under control.
How the fire came about was initially unclear.
The police fire investigators confiscated the agricultural facility.
The officials estimate the property damage to be at least three million euros.
Another pig fattening system burned down on Friday.
In the North Rhine-Westphalian Kerken on the Lower Rhine, between 800 and 900 pigs died.
