The Stuttgart police found numerous violations of the Corona rules in the city center over the weekend.

Hundreds of people gathered on Saturday according to a report on Schlossplatz - when the police stepped in, the situation escalated.

The event began around 8 p.m.

Hundreds of mostly young people have gathered on Schlossplatz.

The majority did not adhere to the rules of distance and did not wear masks, and they drank alcohol despite the ban.

When the police stepped in, some of them reacted "verbally aggressively".

The operation was criticized by chants, and bottles and stones were thrown around 9 p.m.

According to the announcement, an officer was hit on the helmet, but was unharmed like his colleagues.

Flower pots and rental bikes demolished

The young people then moved on.

They would have demolished construction site facilities, flower pots, rental bikes and garbage cans.

The crowd dispersed near the main train station.

According to the police, it wasn't quiet until around 10 p.m.

The emergency services have written several reports of property damage, insult and resistance against officials.

Whether there has been a breach of the peace is still being examined.

The palace square was the scene of riots last summer.

In June 2020, dozens - mostly - young men had clashes with the police in downtown Stuttgart.

Several officers were injured and shop windows were destroyed.

The riot caused headlines and heated debates far beyond Stuttgart.

As a result, town and country agreed to work more closely together, especially on prevention and monitoring.

At the beginning of November, two participants in the riot were sentenced to two and a half years in juvenile detention for a particularly serious breach of the peace.

Another trial started in January.
