(ANSA) - ROME, MARCH 01 - From today March 1 reopens to the public the Mausoleum of Augustus, the largest circular tomb in the ancient world, an emblem of the architectural magnificence of Roman times.
The Capitol announces it.
The reopening takes place after 14 years.
"A jewel of the historical heritage of humanity that we return to the whole world after many years of closure. We have worked towards this goal with commitment and tenacity, supported by the patronage of the Tim Foundation", says the mayor VirginiaRaggi.
Free visits for all until April 21 with reservations, already sold out.
From today they will be available again for the period from 22 April to 30 June.
The Mausoleum had been closed since 2007 due to the start of the archaeological investigations preliminary to the realization of the great recovery and restoration project.
Today the president of the TimSalvatore Rossi Foundation, the competent councilors and the Superintendency were also present at the opening of the visits to the public.
At the same time as the works to complete the museum path and the redevelopment of the square, the area of Piazza Augustoimperatore was made more liveable by moving the bus lines and eliminating parking spaces, with a consequent gain in space.
Thanks to the restoration interventions of the Mausoleum carried out so far, with the arrangement of numerous internal chambers and the start of the preparation of the museum itinerary, it was possible to anticipate the use of the monument in March 2021 with respect to the deadlines for the completion of the museum works.
Even with the construction site in progress, the public will therefore be able to visit the central area and access the spaces safely (ANSA).
