The boom in American series may be over.
Despite the arrival of a host of new online video platforms, including Disney + or Peacock, the NBCUniversal service, the number of new or renewed fictions fell in 2020. According to FX Networks research, Hollywood turned the year last 493 series, or 7% less than in 2019, the year in which 532 series were produced.
After a decade of crazy growth, this drop is a first in the era of "peak TV", this current golden age of television fiction.
In 2009, the United States had some 210 series.
Ten years later, that number has skyrocketed by more than 150% to 532.
