Pietro Larizza, general secretary of Uil from 1992 to 2000, has died. Larizza was born in Reggio Calabria on 21 July 1935.
Larizza, a socialist, had led the UIL in Rome since 1976, and in 79 he had become confederal secretary. He was general secretary after the long leadership of Giorgio Benvenuto and between 2000 and 2005 he held the position of president of the CNEL. He became a senator in 2007, taking over from Goffredo Maria Bettini after being the first of the non-elected in the 2006 Italian parliamentary elections to the Senate of the Republic, in the Lazio region, on the lists of Left Democrats.
In the 2008 political elections he was a candidate in Calabria and Lazio as leader in the Senate for the Socialist Party.
