(ANSA) - LONDON, 02 MAR - "The tower of the Koutoubia mosque", a panoramic view of Marrakesh painted by the British ex-minister Winston Churchill, was sold for 7 million pounds in London by the Christie's auction house.

Churchill was inspired by the Moroccan city and made the painting during a tour of the city during the Second World War in 1943.

The work, which was owned by the actress Angelina Jolie, was estimated at between 1.5 and 2.5 million pounds, but the offers rose dramatically up to - in fact - 7 million.

Calculating the commissions, the final figure is 8.2 million per line.

Also sold two other paintings by Churchill: the three works, overall, were sold for 9.43 million per line. (HANDLE).
