The southern Arava - 13% of the territory of the State of Israel

The southern Arava in the Eilot Regional Council constitutes 13% of the State of Israel, and is home to a total of about 5,000 residents in 10 kibbutzim, two community settlements and family housing in a fact base.

Until about six months ago, the southern part of Israel was called the "Arava Road", mainly because it was perceived by people as a place to stop on the way to Eilat or Eilat.

According to Little Shmueli, the director of tourism for the southern Arava, "With the development of tourism in the area and the understanding that it is a tourist destination in itself, we decided on a rebranding process under the name 'Southern Arava' and the slogan speaks for itself."

And the southern desert is really full of all good things.

For example, in the "Greenhouse of the Five Senses" near Kibbutz Elifaz, managed by Udi Finsler, the kibbutz's tourism director, they do not reinvent themselves, and beyond tours combined with accommodation offered by the kibbutz, in the greenhouse you can get an explanation of spices, vegetables, pomegranates that grow in the desert, and of course taste and take home .

In addition, they will show you how to make antipasti in pipes, in which the temperature reaches 200 degrees Celsius.

Beyond that, the greenhouse has recently started to grow bristle hollyhocks, like the ones you see in pink next to Route 6. "It probably has a demand on Dutch roads, so we are trying," explains Pinsler, who as mentioned keeps innovating and proving that everything can be grown in the desert.

Pick, taste, take home.

Timna Park - bigger than Tel Aviv

Timna Park covers about 70,000 dunams (larger than Tel Aviv!), And in recent years it has undergone major changes, not least with the help of donations from the JNF that is involved in its development - where the state should have invested more and encouraged tourism to the most desert periphery.

However, the area is not quiet about the yeast, and the development in it continues, so the park now has more than 25 hiking trails for families, hikers and cyclists (singles).

Another new thing there is a 14-minute multimedia video projected at 360 degrees, which explains In an experiential and sonic way about Timna's geology, the copper mining in it over time, but hardly touches on Timna's famous landscape formations, such as "The Mushroom" and "Pillars of Solomon", or the important archeological finds unearthed at the site in recent years led by Prof. Erez Ben- Joseph, the excavator of the site, like the remains of crimson fabrics from the 10th century BC (the days of King David and Solomon), fruit seeds or a wall from the time of King David.

The scope of the investment in the visitors' center is measured at a cost of about three and a half million shekels, funded by the Ministry of Tourism, the YCA Foundation, JNF and the Eilot Economic Development Company.

Guided tours all year round

The visitor center will be open from Passover to hikers, where you can reach the park's foyer and also get a glimpse of the finds collected by the park's treasurer, Assaf Holzer, such as copper rocks, greenish metal mining tools, geological explanations and other trail information - all for free.

Entrance to the park itself will cost NIS 49 for an adult, NIS 39 for a child.

In the visitor center, a complex called Road Trip was inaugurated, with a road map with all the familiar sites of the park that can be reached by private car: the mushroom, the arches, the pillars of Solomon.

All selected sites are accessible by car, a short walk from the car park and some have visitor sheds with explanations.

The park offers a variety of guided tours throughout the year.

In the spring season there will be lantern tours on Tuesdays and Thursdays, sunset tours on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays and morning walks on Fridays.

When the weather warms up a bit, star tours and sunrise tours will be launched.

In addition, those interested can stay in Timna Park in a variety of accommodation options: double and family rooms, fully equipped caravans, villa camp (glamping), up-camp (air-conditioned khan for groups), caravan park that includes electricity, water and sewage connections and a camping complex with showers and toilets.

On the lake is a café (Café Timna), a souvenir shop, bicycle rental and pedal boat cruises on the lake.
