The Covid-19 self-test is being distributed in Austria as part of a mass testing strategy.

“These tests are in fact only salon tests and are there to ensure safety at home,” explains Thomas Mueller-Uri, head of the Vindobona pharmacy in Vienna.

These swab tests are already used in schools.

They are now available free of charge for everyone in pharmacies across the country up to a limit of 5 kits per person.

“It was very easy to get, I didn't even need to show any ID,” says Andreas, property manager at the exit of a pharmacy.

This German teacher in Vienna has also just bought her “self-test”.

She is already planning to see her relatives again thanks to this new device: "If you want to invite friends, they do the tests on the terrace and if they are negative then they come to the apartment", she explains.

This Austrian device with a short swab, do-it-yourself is set up while in Europe, a third wave of the virus worries.

Countries are facing a sharp rise in cases and are looking by all means to counter the resurgence of this Covid-19 pandemic.

France has just authorized saliva tests but is cautious about the deployment of self-tests.
