    Sixty-one years old, born in Pazzano, in the province of Reggio Calabria, Sbarra on 28 March 2018 was elected deputy secretary general of the CISL.

In these months of pandemic "we have reached the peak of over 9 million people on layoffs and we run the risk of losing hundreds of thousands of jobs in 2021", after "the almost 500,000" already lost in the last year, states in the report after the election, indicating among the "objectives" to be pursued "in the immediate future the full implementation of the vaccination plan and the extension of social protections, starting with the extension of the blocking of layoffs, shock absorbers and Covid allowances" .

Furlan was elected general secretary of the CISL on 24 June 2014 and then on 8 October 2014 general secretary by the General Council.

On July 1, 2017, the XVIII Confederal Congress had re-elected her to the top of the CISL.
