The World Health Organization (WHO) published on Wednesday several tips on the use of cloth chinstraps during the coronavirus pandemic, in which, among other things, it recommended the use of those with
triple layers and without valves
.
Of the three layers, the inner one in contact with the
The mouth should be made of
absorbent cotton
, the middle one of
polypropylene
, and the outer one could also be made of polypropylene or a
polyester resistant to humidity
, explained the WHO in its weekly epidemiological report.
The organization also recommends examining the chinstrap container to see if it has been laboratory tested, guarantees at least
70 percent filtration of fine droplets
, and whether it retains its properties for at least five washes.
On the other hand, the WHO stresses that not only the filtering capacity of masks should be taken into account, but also their
adaptation to the face
:
they should cover the nose, mouth and chin without leaving openings while allowing good breathing.
In this sense, the body warns that using
two cloth masks at the same time
can carry certain risks, since it could make it so difficult for the user to breathe that it would force him to take it off every so often to catch his breath.
Non-medical cloth masks should be stored in plastic bags or other secure packaging before or after use, and washed
with soap or detergent, preferably at 60 degrees
.
Alternatively, it can be washed with soap and room temperature water, although the WHO then recommends
leaving the mask in boiling water for one minute
.
