(ANSAmed) - TEL AVIV, MARCH 03 - The number of seriously ill coronavirus patients in Israel yesterday marked the lowest figure since December with a total of 717 cases, of which 224 in intensive care.

This was announced by the Ministry of Health, according to which in January, at the height of the third wave of contagion, the figure of 1,200 seriously ill patients had been exceeded.

The death rate and new infections are also now on the decline, compared to last month.

Meanwhile, the mass vaccination campaign continues: over 4.8 million Israelis (out of a total of 9.3 million people) have received the first dose of Pfizer vaccine, and of these 3.5 million have also received the second.

Yesterday there were 100,000 vaccinations: two thirds as the first dose, and a third as the second.

In light of these trends, yesterday the government authorized the partial reopening of Ben Gurion airport in Tel Aviv, as well as the reopening of restaurants and reception rooms within the limits of strict health measures.
