Against the background of the wave of vaccines in the country, data from the OkCupid dating app show a significant increase in likes, messages and matches (matches) for users who answered "yes" to the question of whether they intend to get vaccinated.
According to the data collected in the app, 83% of the Israelis registered in it intend to be vaccinated or have already been vaccinated and about 40% of users said they would cancel a potential date if the candidates for the date declare that they do not intend to be vaccinated.
Among non-straight app users, there is even more interest - 80% of them plan to get vaccinated.
When users of the app were asked if they had to cancel a date following the closures, 34% said they had to cancel, while others found safer solutions, such as a virtual date and outdoor meetings at a safe distance.
In fact, it turns out that the thousands of Israelis who turned to the virtual dating world found different ways to get to know their date - 35% chose to correspond, 31% chose to chat on video and 26% chose to talk on the phone.
Despite this, 86% of app users answered that they are looking forward to post-epidemic dating.
A global trend that is pushing to get vaccinated
The data in Israel are in line with the trend in the rest of the world, which shows a growing interest in the general public in vaccines.
Between November 2020 and January 2021, OkCupid reports that there was a 137% increase in the mention of the word "vaccine" in profiles.
Over the past year, there has been a 185% increase in the use of the word “mask” in profiles, showing that careful conduct throughout the corona plague is important to singles all over the world.
An increase in the importance of political opinions in the app
With the start of 2021 we have also seen the impact of the epidemic on how people prioritize their political views in profile.
More people are opposed to dating people from across the political spectrum, a trend that has intensified during the closures.
In 2019, 53% of respondents said they could not date someone who had political views that were the exact opposite of his own, and the figure jumped to 61% in 2020 and almost 70% so far in 2021. In fact, the percentage of people on OkCupid who said “beliefs "Similar policies are more important than good sex", increased by 31.8% in 2020 compared to 2015. Therefore, as mitigation restrictions are eased, people will be less concerned about someone's income or position, and more about her party voting.
Serious relationships
When asked about their plans after the plague, there was a 12.4-fold increase in users' willingness to find someone special and not just go on different dates.
Another interesting fact is that people do not limit themselves to people who are geographically close to them.
86% of app users expect personal dates as soon as the plague is behind us.
