The International Criminal Court (ICC) has opened a formal investigation into alleged crimes in the occupied Palestinian territories, a decision strongly opposed by Israel.
"I confirm the opening of a court inquiry into the situation in Palestine," said prosecutor Fatou Bensouda.
The Palestinian National Authority (PNA) hailed the decision of Prosecutor Fatou Bensouda to open a formal investigation into alleged war crimes in the Territories.
"It is a long awaited step - the PNA foreign ministry said in a press release taken up by the media - which is functional to the Palestinian relentless search for justice and responsibility, indispensable pillars of the peace that the Palestinian people seek and deserve".
The NPC offered every collaboration in the investigation.
"Israel has been under attack since tonight".
This is Prime Minister Benyamin Netanyahu's comment on the decision of the Hague Criminal Court to open a formal investigation into alleged war crimes in the Palestinian Territories in the 2014 war with Gaza.
"The prejudiced Hague Tribunal - he added - has adopted a decision which is the essence of anti-Semitism and hypocrisy".
