The woman who was lost on Sunday in the Los Gigantes hills area, near the town of Tanti, in the Punilla Valley, Córdoba, was found in good condition on Tuesday afternoon.

"I

only had one orange, but I didn't eat it

until

I

had signs that they were looking for me," Maria del Carmen Herrero told local media after the rescue.

The Secretary for Climate Risk Management, Claudio Vignetta, reported this afternoon to local media that Herrero was found in

"good health

.

"

The rescue teams located the woman after 2:00 pm in the mountainous area of the Nipur stream, near the Yuspe River, about

two hours from the "zero point"

where she was camping with the group she is part of.

Herrero, who is part of an NGO that works in a reforestation program, reportedly separated from her group in the early hours of Sunday, and since then nothing has been known about her.

“I never managed to be alone, I never thought of getting lost in the mountains.

It was an

exasperating

moment

, ”the 31-year-old from Cordoba said to the program Vamos Vea, on La Popu radio.

The woman is a native of the capital of Córdoba and, according to police information, has experience working in mountain areas.

The police had opened a summary for the disappearance of a person, and since then a search operation had been arranged with specialized teams of

more than 50 people

, made up of firefighters from the Department of High Risk Units (DUAR), trained dogs, drones and guides. .

María del Carmen Herrero, who has a degree in Nutrition and a teacher of Biology and Health Education, clarified that

she is not a mountaineer

, although she admitted having an adventurous soul.

María del Carmen Herrero, the 31-year-old woman was with a group of mountaineers in Los Gigantes, was rescued.

“What happened was that I had volunteered for a reforestation program and on the 28th we went down from the area where the Club Andino refuge is located.

I went out very warm because it was raining and on the way it started to get hot.

I did not have breakfast nor had I slept well.

When the guide stopped to answer some questions from other people outside the group, I took advantage of that stop to take off my clothes and stay looser, "he said after the rescue.

And he continued: “Then, the group kept going down, the thing is that I was a little late and, at that moment, when I got back on the road, I didn't see any more people.

That re-expected me.

I got lost the second, a tremendous thing, because I saw them and

when I got closer, I didn't see them anymore

”.

He acknowledged that when he did not see anyone, he began to panic and shout: "

Help me, I got lost

."

Then he took a somewhat dangerous path, bordering an area that he defined as "quite fulera, rare, like with rock and height".

"I was doing all that out of nerves and desperation. Until I said:

'Carmen calm down, you're lost

.

'

Then, at some point I said to myself: 'Enjoy the scenery, you won't find anyone,'" he said.

Regarding the strategies he developed to be able to have water and food until they found it, he revealed: "The first thing I hit upon was to have water, so I continued along the river. I only carried a canteen to reserve water. I didn't have any food,

just an orange.

, I left it for two days later. The first day I didn't eat anything at night and I went in search of a cave. Guy seven in the afternoon I knew it was going to rain and it did rain. I got into the first big cave I saw ”.

He remembered that

the first night he did not sleep at all

: "I rested, but it was to be on the lookout for any critters to enter. Feel the heavy rain, thunder and lightning. It was like having a giant screen in front of you."

“It was two nights like this.

The second one also rained, but then it cleared up.

The second day I got up directly, I did flexibility and I went back to bed because I was rowing.

I said to myself: 'If I don't have food, I don't have the strength

.

And I'm not going to waste the orange I have until I find some sign that they are looking for me and I can get closer.

I prefer to rest all day, '”he recalled.

With a cell phone without a signal to communicate and without elements to signal the air, María del Carmen continued to wait for the rescuers.

"

On Tuesday I felt a helicopter.

I ate the orange and walked, I left the cave."

Within minutes, she was rescued.
