A strong tremor was felt in the area of the town of Larissa, in the center of the country, early Wednesday afternoon.

A magnitude 6.3 earthquake hit Wednesday near Larissa, a large city in central Greece.

The earthquake was felt in central and northern Greece.

According to the first information from the geodynamic observatory of Athens, the epicenter of the earthquake took place 21 km south of the municipality of Elassona, near Larissa, and 350 km north of Athens.

"The depth of the earthquake was ten meters, therefore there will be significant aftershocks," Greek seismologist Gerassimos Papadopoulos warned on Skai radio.

Local authorities were assessing the damage from the earthquake, which has already made at least three aftershocks averaging magnitude 4.

In the municipality of Damasi, located 20 km from Larissa, buildings and cars were badly damaged.

For now, no victim is to be deplored.

Located in the south-east of Europe, Greece has significant geological faults and earthquakes are frequent there especially at sea, most often without causing victims.
