The victims are between 15 and 53 years old.
“Some were thrown onto the road, onto the ground, and died from their injuries,” explains Omar Watson, the head of the border division of the California highway police.
In the SUV, the police made a strange discovery: all passenger seats had been removed.
The authorities do not yet explain the reason for this change.
