Farmer sprinkles pesticides: incorrectly dosed, the chemicals can contaminate the groundwater and poison plants and animals

Located between a scrap dealer and a catering service is Paul Weiterer's gray warehouse.
In Pattensen, south of Hanover, he sells fertilizers and pesticides to farmers in the region.
He has up to ten tons of it in stock.
If you don't know what to do, you only see inconspicuous canisters with hazard symbols.
But the liquids standing here are valuable.
A five-liter canister can cost more than 200 euros.
This was known to the burglars who carried away more than 1500 liters of Agil-S, Amistar Gold and Vulkanus on a September night.
The funds are used, among other things, to control weeds in grain cultivation.
The thieves drove straight into the yard in the van
"They knew exactly what they were looking for," says Weiterer, managing director of the land trade.
The thieves pried open his entrance gate, cracked the lock of the hall and then drove a transporter directly into the courtyard.
That night's loot was worth almost € 85,000.
And the break-in in Pattensen is not an isolated incident.
