In Michigan, a white man hung a flag of the racist Ku Klux Klan clearly visible to his black neighbor. The incident sparked outrage - but it has no legal consequences.

Wayne County in the US state of Michigan made headlines around the world for the last time after the US presidential election last November.

At the time, ex-President Donald Trump claimed without evidence that the district with the city of Detroit had irregularities in the vote count.

Now Wayne County has a new scandal: A white man is said to have hung a flag of the racist secret society Ku Klux Klan in his window in his house in the Detroit suburb of Grosse Point Park.

In such a way that the flag could be clearly seen by his black neighbor and could obviously be understood as an attempt at intimidation.

The flag hung directly across from her family's dining room, said JeDonna Dinges, according to the AP news agency.

She felt threatened and complained to the police.

She was advised there to move to solve the problem.

Thing refused - and made the incident public.

But there is apparently no legal means to prevent the man from hanging up the racist flag.

"There is no question that what happened to Ms. Dinges is despicable, traumatizing and completely unacceptable," the Washington Post quoted District Attorney Kym Worthy as saying.

Unfortunately, there is no way of taking legal action against it, the black prosecutor said in a statement.

He had previously announced that the prosecution would not bring charges about the incident.

He encouraged Michigan lawmakers to review the relevant laws and take steps to protect citizens from this "horrific behavior," said Worthy, referring to the incident.

According to a media report, the neighbor's friend justified hanging the flag with the fact that the money for a curtain was missing and they felt they were being watched by a camera set up by Thing.

After the incident became known about two weeks ago, a number of people showed solidarity with things.

A protest march was also carried out.

For the time being, the neighborhood conflict seems to have been resolved pragmatically.

The neighbor lowered the flag after the police brought him new window curtains.
