(ANSA) - ROME, MARCH 04 - A moved crowd attended today in Mandalay, Burma, the funeral of a nineteen-year-old girl killed yesterday by gunshots during the anti-coup protests.

Kyal Sin, nicknamed 'Angel', wore a T-shirt with the phrase "Everything will be fine" in the procession when she died.

Images of her, drawings and homage phrases are invading the social networks, making the young woman a symbolic figure of the umpteenth tragic Burmese crisis that has so far caused at least 54 deaths.

Leading the funeral procession, a truck covered with flowers with a banner reading "hero", followed by a black and gold funeral car.

Thousands of mourners sang revolutionary songs and anti-coup slogans.

Many even on social networks have defined her as a "heroine".

Aware of the dangers of participating in the protests, she had written details of her blood type on Facebook and asked for her organs to be donated in case she should die.

The young woman, passionate about dance and martial arts, had joined in recent days the hundreds of thousands of people all over the country asking for the release of the civil leader Aung San Suu Kyi, in prison since the coup d'etat of February 1st.

On her Facebook page she posted videos of her dance steps, selfies of her clothes and photos with her father.

Last month she had tied a red ribbon to her wrist, a symbol of courage.

Late last year, father and daughter had taken photographs of their ink-stained fingers after voting in the second democratic election in Myanmar, which Suu Kyi's party won in an avalanche of devotees.

Some videos posted on social media show the last moments of Kyal Sin during a demonstration that resulted in a massacre.

The girl ran for cover along a street amidst the noise of gunfire and the smoke of tear gas.

A doctor confirmed to AFP that she was shot in the head.

"Rest in peace my friend" - says one of the countless posts on facebook -.

We will fight this revolution to the end ". (ANSA).
