ROME - Minister Massimo Garavaglia starts from the "good news for the world of tourism" who opened the works of the conference "For Italy! Tourism as an economic and social engine for the real restart" organized by the International Association of Knights of Tourism, chaired by the sole administrator of Fiera Roma Pietro Piccinetti, and broadcast live on youtube.
"The first great good news for the sector and for our country - says Garavaglia - is the institution of the ministry but the other good news is that it is already operational and we are already working, which in Italy is not obvious. the emergency with support and as early as the next decree we will see to intervene in an important way ".
But Garavaglia, who in these days is constantly meeting operators and associations, explains that he is collecting many suggestions and many concrete proposals on which the new ministry will work.
In the meantime, one thing is important to do immediately according to the minister.
"We must seize - he explains - every opportunity that 2021 already gives us. We know that the real restart will only take place when we are vaccinated, but in the meantime we see everything that can already be done and therefore, for what is possible to do safely, start to operate. It is very important not to lose skills. For example: if a cook goes to Switzerland because he doesn't work here and goes to 5,000 francs, then you never recover him ... In this perspective, the fact that you can return from the redundancy fund with a deduction is fine but it is unthinkable that it should return to 100%. Better to another percentage but be careful not to lose the skills and the desire to operate ".
But how to restart tourism, which before the crisis was worth over 13% of Italian GDP, even stronger than before?
Garavaglia has no doubts.
"There are - he explains - some well-known and obligatory lines of action. On the one hand, take advantage of this period to improve structures and then there is the issue of the digital revolution which can give great opportunities and developments to the sector".
For this, according to Garavaglia, Italy must overcome the existing fragmentation which is both horizontally and vertically.
"In the first case, the establishment of a ministry, which deals with the tourism industry, finally overcomes it. So the competences are clear, we will dialogue with the other ministries but with the" dignity "of a ministry with a portfolio. for the tourism industry it will facilitate dialogue with the Ministry of Economic Development and it will not be a problem to continue to speak with that of Culture ".
For the vertical fragmentation, the minister explains: "We have already recovered the strong relationship with the regions and we have already established some key points. First of all, the Italian brand is promoted all together, then when one comes to Italy there is embarrassment The other thing is to do together is the digital revolution. That is to say the State, and in particular the Enit which is its operational arm, becomes the aggregator of the digital promotion of the Italian system, without replacing anyone but integrating the existing.
