(ANSA) - ROME, MARCH 04 - A magnitude 6.9 earthquake occurred off the coast of New Zealand.
This was announced by the Usgs.
A tsunami warning was issued soon after.
"Based on the preliminary parameters of the earthquake, dangerous shoreline tidal waves are possible within 300 kilometers of the earthquake's epicenter," said the Hawaii-based Pacific Tsunami Warning Center.
The epicenter of the quake was 180 kilometers northeast of the city of Gisborne at 2:27 am, at a depth of 10 kilometers.
