Work: Pd, equity paternity leave between public and private

(ANSA) - ROME, MARCH 04 - "As regards parental leave, the disparity between employee fathers in the private sector and those in the public sector must be corrected".

This is what eighteen senators of the Democratic Party are asking, with a question to Minister Brunetta first signed by Senator Vincenzo D'Arienzo, leader of the Democratic Party in the Public Works commission.

    "The compulsory leave for the working father - explains D'Arienzo - has been foreseen only for employees in the private sector since 2012. The authorization measure, the law 92/2012, has always been extended and the duration has been increased from 7 to 10 days. The leave however, it is the exclusive prerogative of private employees, given that public employees lack the relative implementing measure, which was also provided for by the original legislation. The Minister of the Public Administration had been authorized, after consulting the trade union organizations which were most representative of public administration employees, to identify and define, also by means of legislative initiatives, the areas, the methods and the timing of harmonization of the regulations relating to employees of public administrations. But nothing has happened since then, despite the fact that the legislator intervened by increasing, from time to time, the number of days allocated to mandatory paternity leave.

   This is why we are now asking Minister Brunetta to intervene, albeit a little belatedly, to remedy this unjustified inequality of treatment: the protections related to parenthood cannot be subordinated to the nature, public or private, of the employer ". (ANSA).
