Aldi is causing a bang: From Saturday, the discounter giant will be offering Corona rapid tests nationwide and thus outdoing the competition.

Munich - The discounter Aldi is pushing ahead: With its announcement that it will sell corona rapid tests across Germany from next Saturday, the company is making headlines.

Observers did not expect sales of the quick tests for self-application to start until next week, but now the discounter is creating facts.

In a press release, Aldi announced a sale from next Saturday.

Aldi: Corona rapid tests for home should cost 24.99 euros per pack

As Aldi reports, the corona rapid tests are available for customers directly at the checkout.

Due to the high expected demand, the discounter limits the amount sold to one pack per customer, which should be available for 24.99 euros.

With five tests per pack, this corresponds to a price of five euros per corona rapid test.

Aldi expects the product to be very popular. In the press release, the company asks for your understanding if the tests “may be out of stock on the first day of the campaign”.

Aldi calls on its customers to adhere to "all applicable hygiene and distance rules as well as the recommendations of the Robert Koch Institute, even after a negative test result."

Corona rapid tests: Consumers should pay attention to this when performing Aldis corona tests

Aldi will be offering the "Aesku.Rapid SARS CoV-2 rapid test" in its branches from March 6th.

The product is an antigen test which, according to the discounter, can detect corona disease in 15 minutes.

The recognition rate is 96 percent.

The test is minimally invasive, with consumers taking a nasal swab inside themselves.

The quick test comes with detailed instructions that describe the test process in detail.

So far, corona tests have been withheld from medical staff in Germany, while corona self-tests have been available for some time in neighboring European countries.

Antigen tests: Rossmann and dm plan to start sales next week

The discounter giant has announced that it will sell the rapid tests this week, dm and Rossmann beforehand.

The drugstore chains had announced that they would offer the tests from March 9th.

There is still no official information about the prices for the rapid tests.

quotes the dm press office, "schools and day-care centers should be able to be visited regularly again, so we will offer the tests as cheaply as possible".

As the portal reports, dm will probably offer the rapid tests for around ten euros.
