Paris airports recorded a 60% decrease in air traffic in 2020, due to the health crisis. A welcome respite for

“Since the drop in air traffic, I have rediscovered the pleasure of going in my garden, eating outside and I have found a much more restful and much more complete sleep.

What first and foremost prompted Françoise Brochot to buy her house in Soisy-sous-Montmorency, in the Val-d'Oise, in 1993, was the garden and the calm of the neighborhood.

This was without counting the expansion of Paris-Charles-de-Gaulle airport, located less than twenty kilometers away, which placed the house in an air corridor in the early 2000s. “From there , life has become unbearable and we have stopped using our garden ”, confides the president of the association Advocnar (Association for Defense Against Air Nuisances).

Then follows an aerial ballet of about 400 planes per day above its roof.

Salvation finally came in the form of a virus and a health crisis.

With the reduction in passenger flights, Françoise Brochot and her neighbors can finally breathe, take their meals outside without fear of having to take refuge in the kitchen and enjoy a restful sleep.

Because beyond a simple hearing discomfort, the daily noise of the reactors has direct consequences on the health of residents of Roissy: “I have to take sleeping pills to sleep.

It is a constant stress during the day, a difficulty in concentrating even inside the house when working and it is also a problem to relax or to enjoy a TV show.

“At night, the traffic continues to be the same unfortunately,” confirms Catherine Bouvier, helpless.

A resident of Taverny, she explains that she had been woken up several times by freighters the night before, despite earplugs and the double glazing of the windows.

Residents of Roissy airport are now considering with "anguish" the gradual resumption of air traffic.

"We will find a hellish situation that will be all the more unbearable that we have known something else in the intermediary", alarms the president of the association Advocnar.
