The Golden Bear 2021 goes to “Bad Luck Banging or Loony Porn” by Romanian director Radu Jude (original title: “Babardeală cu bucluc sau porno balamuc”).

This was announced by the international jury of the 71st Berlinale at an online ceremony.

The Silver Bear for best acting goes to the German actress Maren Eggert for her leading role in Maria Schrader's "Ich bin dein Mensch".

Because of the pandemic, the film festival will initially take place online in the form of virtual specialist events for the film industry.

A public festival is to follow in Berlin in June.

Only then should the awards be ceremoniously presented.

A Corona jury made up of six former directors who recently received the Golden Bear decided the prizes: Mohammad Rasoulof, Nadav Lapid, Adina Pintilie, Ildikó Enyedi and Gianfranco Rosi as well as Jasmila Žbanić, who won in 2006.

Alongside Cannes and Venice, the Berlinale is one of the most important film festivals in the world.

This time, 15 films were in the running for the Golden Bear, including several German productions, such as the literary film adaptation of “Fabian or The Walk to the Dogs” by Dominik Graf and the directorial debut of actor Daniel Brühl with the title “Next door”.

In this edition, the second under the leadership of the dual leadership of Carlo Chatrian and Mariette Rissenbeek, for the first time the Berlinale no longer differentiated according to gender in the drama awards.

So far, the best actress and the best actor have been awarded.

This time a Silver Bear went to Eggert for best acting in a leading role and Lilla Kizlinger for best acting in a supporting role.

A decision that sparked praise and criticism.

While Maren Eggert and Dan Stevens ("Downton Abbey") welcomed the idea this week, the equality alliance Pro Quote Film criticized the decision in the summer as a fig leaf.

In the film industry, two thirds of roles are written for men.

Actresses are thus exposed to further competition, it said at the time in a message.

The Federal Drama Association (BFFS) also rated the innovation - for example in view of the roles that still apply - as a “major step backwards”.
