In the trial of the death of three-year-old Greta from Viersen in North Rhine-Westphalia, the accused educator was sentenced to life imprisonment for murder.
The Mönchengladbach Regional Court also determined the particular gravity of the guilt, which largely rules out Sandra M.'s early release from prison.
The 25-year-old woman from Geldern, Lower Rhine, is said to have squeezed the chest of the kindergarten child Greta until breathing stopped in April 2020 - the emergency doctor was able to reanimate the child, but it died days later in the hospital.
The defendants were accused of murder and mistreatment of wards in eight cases.
The public prosecutor's office had spoken out in favor of life imprisonment.
She also asked for the particular gravity of the guilt to be determined.
The secondary prosecution joined the demands, the defense pleaded for an acquittal.
The educator is said to have previously abused other children in the same way.
At the beginning of the trial, M. had denied all allegations.
