After a fatal accident in Frankfurt am Main last November, an arrest warrant for murder was issued against the alleged driver.
The public prosecutor's office also accuses the 38-year-old man of dangerous bodily harm and of participating in an illegal car race.
As the investigating authority announced, the suspect was arrested on Thursday and was in custody.
In the accident, a 27-year-old bicycle courier and a 61-year-old pedestrian were killed and the 61-year-old's 31-year-old daughter was seriously injured.
Risky drifts and showing off
The public prosecutor's office is now assuming that the 38-year-old had delivered a race with a driver driving next to him.
In order to be able to give full throttle at the traffic lights as effectively as possible, he is said to have switched off relevant safety systems on his BMW.
He also tried to impress other road users with risky drifts in his high-powered SUV.
Through this driving behavior, the man had at least approvingly accepted to fatally injure other people in the busy square on Frankfurt's Ostend, the investigators suspect, according to their own statements.
The public prosecutor had initially investigated the 38-year-old on suspicion of negligent homicide.
"In the course of the investigation, however, there were indications that he did not cause the accident improperly, but deliberately," says the authority's statement.
