The overthrow of Megan Merkel continues: Why did she wear "blood diamonds"?

At the most tumultuous time in the former Duchess's life, just before her and her husband Prince Harry's interview with Oprah Winfrey is published, the head of a human rights organization decided to go against her for previously choosing to wear diamond earrings given to her by the heir apparent involved in the murder.

Justified criticism or problematic timing?

A lot is going on for Megan Merkel these days.

Her and her husband's interview, Prince Harry, with Oprah Winfrey and The Turbulent Kingdom is expected to air today.

In recent days, accusations have been heard from palace staff about bullying by Merkel, prompting her friends from the Hollywood industry to come out in her defense.

And amid all this storm, the former Duchess is now being condemned and accused, only from a different direction.

A lawyer who heads a human rights organization has decided at the hottest time for Merkel to come out against her, claiming she previously wore diamond earrings given to her by the man responsible for the horrific murder of Saudi journalist Jamal Khushkji in Istanbul in 2018 - Saudi Crown Prince.

The lawyer who re-flooded Megan's use of the "blood earrings" is Michael Eisner, who heads an organization that Khushkji founded three months before he was assassinated.

According to Eisner, Merkel's jewelry box contains glittering oversized diamond earrings bought with the money of Saudi Crown Prince Prince Muhammad bin Salman, the same one who according to the testimony ordered the shocking assassination of Hashukaji, who was known to oppose the Saudi royal family.

"These earrings were bought with blood money and given to her by a murderer," Eisner said.

"She should not wear them."

Merkel first wore these earrings, from the luxury brand Chopard, on a visit to Fiji in October 2018, three weeks after the murder.

However, the Duchess's lawyers, who sought to address the claims made by Eisner, insist that Merkel did not know the source of the earrings and more - she did not know at the time about the Saudi regent's involvement in the horrific murder.

On the other hand, other sources in the palace claim that she received warnings, but chose to ignore and wear these earrings nonetheless.

Are these sources credible or are they part of a smear campaign the Duchess is currently going through against the background of the choice to be interviewed by Winfrey?

We probably will not know that.

So how did these bloody earrings roll into Merkel's jewelry box?

During Muhammad bin Salman's visit to the UK in March 2018 he was present at a dinner with the Queen.

So, according to reports, he gave these earrings as an official wedding gift to Megan Merkel.

However, he did not give them to her in person and in fact there is also no evidence that the two ever met.

Gifts given to royalty are considered the property of the palace, and are lent to royalty - which may explain why Merkel did not know the origin of the earrings and thought they were a gift lent to her by the palace.

According to sources, Megan actually found out about the existence of the earrings only in July 2018, when they were chosen for her to travel wardrobe to Fiji, Tonga, Australia and New Zealand.

And even then, she reportedly did not know it was a wedding gift given to the palace by the Saudi prince.

Did she know these were earrings from the Saudi Crown Prince?

Khushkji was murdered on October 2.

On October 18, it was reported that the Saudi heir had a connection to the case.

Five days later, Merkel was first spotted with these earrings in Fiji.

The second time was in November 2018, when Merkel wore the earrings to Prince Charles' 70th birthday party at Buckingham Palace.

Since though she has not been seen with these earrings again, that does not stop Attorney Eisner from now flooding the discussion about Merkel's possession of these earrings.

The reason for this, apart from the burning timing, is the fact that it was recently learned that she still holds these set of earrings.

According to Eisner, royalty should keep abreast of major events happening in the world as well as in politics, and act accordingly.

"It is embarrassing that Megan does not know the circumstances of Hashukaji's murder and does not understand that Muhammad bin Salman has blood on his hands," he said.

He suggested that Megan donate these earrings, but this is a decision that needs to be approved by the palace, again - as it is a loan of royal family property.

So did Merkel even know that these earrings are a gift from the Saudi Crown Prince and is this the right time to discuss the earrings she wore more than two years ago?

Is the criticism justified and should be heard at any time, or does the choice to flood it now raise eyebrows?

We therefore leave these questions.
