More and more widespread local lockdowns that will bring a large part of Italy into the red and constant monitoring of the trend of the virus curve, to be ready to intervene with "the utmost rigor" in case the variants should cause infections to rise exponentially.
The government is preparing to face another difficult week in the fight against Covid, aware that it could be called to take further measures despite the first Dpcm signed by Prime Minister Mario Draghi has only been in force for 24 hours.
The numbers confirm the concern expressed by scientists, who repeatedly in recent days have reiterated the need to strengthen and raise measures at national and local level and to drastically reduce mobility and interactions between citizens: even today almost 21 thousand new positives, the positivity rate that rises by one point to 7.6% and another 207 deaths, with the number of victims that in the next few hours will exceed the figure, unimaginable a year ago, of 100 thousand since the beginning of the emergency.
Not only.
In the ordinary wards of the hospitals there were another 443 entries in 24 hours, with the total number of patients returning to over 21 thousand.
And intensive care has been growing steadily for 18 days: today there are 2,605 patients, over 500 more in two weeks.
In addition, nine regions have exceeded the critical threshold of 30% of occupancy of places in resuscitation.
All clear symptoms that the curve continues to grow inexorably.
"This will be a complicated month" admits the Minister of Health Roberto Speranza, reiterating how the variants have "produced a new phase of acceleration of the epidemic", with the virus that "today is more capable of running" than in previous months.
It will therefore be necessary to intervene, even if the government continues to repeat that at the moment there is no reasoning of a general lockdown, if only because the situation is very different from region to region.
Just look at the daily data: out of almost 21,000 positives, more than half are in three regions, Lombardy (almost 4,400 cases), Emilia Romagna (3,056) and Campania (2,560), while 500 cases are not reached in another 8.
"Today we have an enormous differentiation between territories and the built model serves precisely to highlight these differences," says Speranza, thus confirming that we will continue with the system of bands.
