The French billionaire and politician Olivier Dassault was killed in a helicopter crash.
The helicopter with the 69-year-old on board crashed near Deauville, as the AFP news agency reported.
French President Emmanuel Macron confirmed the death on Twitter.
Dassault belonged to the Republican Party (LR) and sat for them in the National Assembly.
French President Emmanuel Macron praised him in the short message service Twitter as a man of many talents and declared: "His sudden death is an enormous loss".
Dassault was the eldest son of Serge Dassault, who headed the armaments company of the same name.
The company builds the French military jet "Dassault Rafale".
In addition, the newspaper "Le Figaro" belongs to the group.
Serge Dassault was the son of the aircraft designer and company founder Marcel Dassault, he died in May 2018 at the age of 93.
The family's fortune is estimated at more than 20 billion euros.
