The Burmese army has occupied the country's hospitals and universities in view of a general strike called by the unions to protest against the military coup of 1 February last.
Local media reported this, according to CNN.
This is the umpteenth initiative by the junta to consolidate its control in the country in the face of mass protests that have so far caused at least 54 deaths among the demonstrators.
Over the weekend, witnesses saw soldiers occupying hospitals and universities in Yangon.
For his part, an official from the office of the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights - James Rodehaver - said at least five hospitals were occupied today, including four in Yangon and at least one in Mandalay.
Also today, the international group of Doctors for Human Rights condemned "the invasion and occupation of public hospitals and the excessive force used against civilians".
Another pro-democracy demonstrator was killed, today's death toll rises to three.
As previously reported, two men were killed and several people were injured in Myitkyina, in the central region of the country.
To these was added another in Pyapon, a town about a hundred kilometers south of Yangon: according to an eyewitness, it is a 30-year-old man shot to death in the stomach by a bullet fired by security forces.
