From the baseball legend to the developer of Bitcoin: the people who have been frozen and are waiting to be thawed in the future

Baseball legend Ted Williams and Bitcoin developer El Pini are part of a small group of celebrities who have chosen ahead of time to freeze themselves so that they can thaw and live them in the future when science is advanced enough to do so.

One of them even believed it would happen in the next decade and in retrospect would surely have been disappointed

Cryogenic freezing is mentioned in science fiction books and movies like "The Eighth Traveler" and "Avatar," but these imaginary stories are not far from reality - at least in the part related to the freezing process.

As for thawing and revival - it is still very far away.

Turns out there is a small group of celebrities who have decided on their own and with clear thinking (so we hope), to freeze their bodies and hope that in the distant future technology will be advanced enough to wake them from the "coma" they forced on themselves.

In the process of cryogenic freezing, bodies or even just specific organs are frozen in dry ice or liquid nitrogen in a completely sealed cell in order to preserve them for thousands - or even millions - of years.

The idea behind cryonics is to allow people to live forever by keeping their bodies at very low temperatures (around -196 degrees Celsius).

As early as the 17th century, the philosopher Robert Boyle experimented with freezing animals in a vacuum and discovered that their bodies can be frozen in airless space, but only in recent decades has science decided to challenge death and try to give humans eternal life through the freezing process.

Anyone who decided to take part in the experiment did so without any real risk.

That is, those who chose it agreed to it only after modern medicine was too short to save them.

Instead of being buried, they were frozen - in the hope, even if the smallest, that in the future they would be able to come back to life.

As of 2014, some 250 people have undergone the deep-freeze conservation process since it was first proposed in 1962.

In the United States, the law allows the preservation process to begin only after the official signing of the death certificate.

The best time to start the preservation process is in the first few minutes after cardiac arrest, although it can also be done long after - assuming that part of the brain structure that preserves information may be preserved in such cases as well.

Speaking to the Daily Star, Professor Joao Pedro de Maglass, who co-ordinates the British Network for Cryonics and Cryogenic Freezing, said: "If we can revive a saved person, even thousands of years from now, it will be considered a success."

He explained that the process involving the use of liquid nitrogen can preserve the body "indefinitely, for thousands if not millions of years."

He explained: "In cryonics there are no chemical reactions and biological time does not pass. Therefore, the biological age of the individual at the time of his or her awakening will be the same as the age at which he or she entered conservation."

"This is a false illusion sale and by and large, it is for the levels of patients who are in a desperate situation who want to receive hope. What is required in a patient-doctor relationship is integrity," she told Walla in 2016!

Health Dr. Tami Karni, Chairman of the Medical Ethics Bureau of the Physicians' Federation.

"The doctor should be loyal to his patient and not sell him promises that they are a flower crow," she added.

Freezing corpses is not supported by the medical and scientific community who see the concept as a dream in asphyxia and the sale of illusions, but there is emergency treatment based on a similar idea of using the freezing technique for life-threatening trauma victims, which was tried in 2014 in the US. Aimed at lowering body temperature and stabilizing it for a period of time in order to improve medical outcomes after blood flow to the brain was temporarily stopped due to trauma.

The cooling technique also known as life delay was developed by Dr. Peter Dee after conducting a successful pig experiment in 2000. His study in 2006, where he reported that he was able to lower the body temperature of pigs, and that 90 percent of the pigs whose body temperature dropped and then was raised back survived and showed no cognitive or physical defects.

The technology that can deceive death?

So who do we have on the frozen list?

The El Pini Software Developer

El Pini is one of the first developers and users of Bitcoin.

Hull was diagnosed with ALS in August 2009 and became paralyzed in March 2013. He died on August 28, 2014 at the age of 58 and at his request was kept in a freezer by Alcor's life extension fund. In 1992 he visited Alcor's facility after taking an interest in cryogenic freezing and then said: "In my personal opinion, anyone born at this time has a 50-50 chance of living forever." Philosopher Max More said on his death: "I know I speak for many when I say I expect to speak to you (God) again sometime in the future and hold a party in honor of your resurrection."

This is what the freezing of the bodies in Alcor looks like

Writer FM-2030

FM-2030 (Friedon M. Espendari) was an American-Iranian writer, teacher, transhumanist philosopher, futurist, consultant and athlete.

He was 69 when he died in 2000. He changed his name in the 70s in hopes of living to celebrate his 100th birthday in 2030. He said at the time: "I am a 21st century person who was born by mistake in the 20th century. I have nostalgia Deep into the future. Conventional names define a person's past - origin, nationality and religion. I'm not who I was a decade ago and certainly not who I will be in two decades. The name 2030 reflects my belief that the years around 2030 will be magical. In 2030 we will be ageless and everyone will have a chance "It's great to live forever. 2030 is a dream and a goal."

Sorry to disappoint, but we're ototo there and living under a plague that kills millions so not sure your vision will come true.

FM-2030 died of pancreatic cancer and was the first person to glaze and not freeze - meaning his body underwent a "flash freeze" process (to become "glass-like" within minutes) rather than the slow freeze process.

What will happen to FM 2030's frozen body?

Baseball Legend Ted Williams

Ted Williams is one of the greatest American baseball players of all time.

He died in 2002 at the age of 83 after suffering a heart attack.

Although his official will stated that his body was intended for cremation, his children chose to freeze his remains.

This is because, according to his lawyer, Ted and his children formed an informal handwritten family alliance, in which they determined that they would undergo a cryogenic freeze after death so that they could be together in the future, even if the chances were slim.

Therefore - the head and body of the baseball legend are stored separately in the Alcor Life Extension Fund.

AbcNews reports that his head remains preserved in the pot.

Larry Johnson, former chief operating officer of Alcor's Life Extension Fund, spoke of his body: "It is lying frozen in Scottsdale, Arizona. His body was desecrated and destroyed. It's pointless."

The theory behind freezing his head separately is that in the future it will be possible to pin it to a clone or transplant it to Android.

The story of the freezing of baseball legend Ted Willimas

Professor James Bedford The

American professor of psychology, James Bedford, was born in 1893 and was the first person to undergo a cryogenic freeze.

His body remains in Alcor's life extension fund.

Bedford suffered from kidney cancer and used his own money to pay for his preservation.

He even left $ 100,000 in his will for the study of cryonics.

On January 12, a few hours after his death, his body was frozen and is stored to this day in a vacuum bottle known as the Doar.

The day it was frozen, January 12, is considered by many to be "James Bedford Day."

This is what James Bedford's freeze looked like

And what is happening in Israel?

To date, the body of no Israeli has been frozen, but according to Wikipedia, in 2018 an active movement began to form under the leadership of high-tech entrepreneur Pavel Fleet, and the doctoral student in neuroscience at the University of Leeds (England) Omar Yuval, with the aim of establishing a Kryoni Institute in Israel.

They founded the Kryonica Israel movement, which, according to its statement of intent, "sees the preservation of life as we know it as a supreme goal, and the Kryonica as a life-saving insurance that will be activated only without choice."

The movement wants to emphasize that "although cryogenic service is already available in several places in the world, there is still no evidence of a successful thawing of a person (or other mammal) from cryogenic freezing. However, studies from recent years provide compelling evidence that whole organs, especially brains, can be frozen at temperatures. "Low (below 100 ° C) long-term and thaw them without significantly damaging the tissue structure. Despite the uncertainty, this evidence reinforces the hypothesis that already existing technology can preserve the human body in a way that will allow future technologies to return it to full health after crystalline freezing."

In addition, there is an association in Israel for the dissemination of the concept of cryonics, under the name "The Israeli Institute for the Advancement of Community Science", headed by Kochi Pinky Cohen and Ben Goldenberg, graduates of the Weizmann Institute of Science.
