A 19-year-old who collapsed in police custody in Delmenhorst, Lower Saxony, did not die as a result of external violence.
According to the preliminary results of the forensic medical examination, the public prosecutor in Oldenburg announced.
The exact cause of death is therefore still unclear.
According to the public prosecutor's office, further investigations, in particular a toxicological one, were commissioned.
It was not known when the test results were expected.
According to the police, the young man died on Saturday evening after being arrested the previous evening during a police operation in Delmenhorster wool park.
The 19-year-old was brought to the police station on Friday evening after a check for possible drug use.
Collapse in the cell
During the arrest there should have been an argument, the 19-year-old is said to have hit a police officer with his fist, among other things.
This is said to have used pepper spray.
According to the police, the young man had refused to be treated by the alarmed rescue workers.
After the arrest, a standby judge ordered a blood test at the request of the public prosecutor.
While the officers were waiting for a doctor, the 19-year-old was reportedly taken to a detention cell and collapsed there.
According to the police, the officers then provided first aid and alerted the rescue service, who took care of the 19-year-old and brought him to the hospital in Oldenburg.
The young man died there.
For reasons of neutrality, the Oldenburg-Stadt / Ammerland police station took over the investigation from the police in Delmenhorst.
