The Swedish death metal singer Lars-Göran Petrov is dead. His bandmates from Entombed AD announced this on Facebook.

"We are devastated that our beloved friend Lars-Göran Petrov has passed away," it says there.

Petrov was diagnosed with bile duct cancer last year and died on Sunday at the age of 49.

Petrov was a founding member of the band Entombed, their debut album "Left Hand Path" (1990) is considered to be trend-setting for the Swedish death metal sound.

After an internal dispute over alignment and naming rights, parts of the band continued as Entombed AD in 2014.

Her last album, »Bowels of Earth«, was released in summer 2019.

"He has changed so many lives with his voice, his music, his character and his unique personality," the statement continues.

"LG's smile is something that we will carry in our hearts forever." The band also recalled an interview that "our Chief Rebel Angel" once gave.

When asked what should be written on his tombstone about him and his legacy, he replied: "I will never die, it will never die." "To entomb someone" means "to bury someone".
