The Rouen-Normandy Metropolis has just launched an application intended to help the general public to better sort their waste and allow them to

Where can I find bins for collecting glass?

What waste should be recycled?

And if I come face to face with a wild deposit, who can I report it to?

So many questions that can be answered in a few clicks by the “Montri” application, officially launched this week by the Rouen-Normandy metropolis (Seine-Maritime).

It will initially concern five cities (Rouen, Elbeuf, Canteleu, Sotteville-lès-Rouen and Mesnil-Esnard) before being extended to all 71 municipalities in the agglomeration at the end of the summer.

"It is time to update the database which lists all the collection points spread over the territory", explains Olivier Gregoris, the director of waste management within the Normandy community, which has more than 1800 voluntary contribution stations.

Manage waste from your mobile phone

It is also time for its services to learn from this first phase to organize themselves accordingly.

In concrete terms, the application, which can be downloaded free of charge on all phones, will centralize all the information concerning waste management.

A tool that we find for example in Nice and which, according to the president of the metropolis, the socialist Nicolas Mayer-Rossignol, “has already proven its worth even if no one has miracle solutions”.

He hopes to improve the recycling rate on his territory, a figure that has stagnated for many years.

A bar code so you don't have the wrong bin

More innovative, a bar code reader can scan packaging to avoid using the wrong bin.

"Over the period 2018-2019, there was 21.6% refusal of sorting, that is to say bucket errors" notes Marie Atinault, the vice-president in charge of this file at the Metropolis: A reality that considerably complicates the recycling chain, when it does not lead all poorly sorted waste directly to the incinerator.

Finally, and only in Rouen initially, it will be possible for users to communicate directly with the services of the Metropolis to inform them, with a photo if they wish, of the presence of waste on the public highway. , in parks or in natural spaces.

“Behind, we will organize ourselves to process the information and intervene as soon as possible,” assures Olivier Gregoris.

It will also be possible to make an appointment for bulky items, to report an anomaly in the collection or the state of the voluntary contribution stations, to request a new bin ... "It is already possible to do it with via a toll-free number (0 800 021 021), notes Nicolas Mayer-Rossignol, but it is clear that today the general public uses this type of application more easily ”
