Another ongoing damage to the corona.

The consequences of the corona crisis are evident in almost every detail of our lives.

Only a few areas have maintained a normal routine in the past year, while most sectors of the economy have been intermittently frozen, shut down and even collapsed.

As a result, a large proportion of Israeli citizens are in an economic crisis of their own, and manage all their expenses carefully.

Under uncertainty and a precarious economic situation, even important and vital expenses may be squeezed in favor of others, more urgent.

One of the areas affected as a result is oral and dental health.

If in the first months of the crisis many refrained from getting dental care or other medical treatments due to the fear of getting infected, now it seems that some patients prefer to avoid or postpone their dental care due to the dire economic situation.

Radwan Abu Reya, director of the credit dent dental clinic, says that the effect of the economic situation on some patients can certainly be seen.

"The corona has undoubtedly added to the difficulty of quite a few people. We see them today, more than once, giving up essential treatments for themselves in favor of caring for children, for example. I had a catastrophic condition, with an almost ruined mouth - most of the teeth are missing, it is not clear how He came with his daughter for orthodontic treatment and underwent an examination himself, but when he realized that he also needed serious treatment, he said that until after the payments for the girl's treatment were not discussed, even when we offered various payment arrangements - he was not ready to hear ".

Delaying such treatments of course has consequences. "Any problematic condition in the teeth that requires treatment may worsen if not treated in time. A hole in the tooth that can amount to a simple filling may need root canal treatment if left untreated or reach a condition that requires displacement. Loss of teeth is one of the most common problems we see In patients, even at relatively young ages, and in most cases it happens because of neglect. "

Stories of this kind are the reason why Abu Riya established the dental clinic, which he defines as a social clinic.

"I was not in that direction at all," he says, "I never thought of opening a dental clinic, but after my wife and I underwent very expensive dental treatments we decided it should not be so and opened a social clinic to help people and come towards them."

Make quality dentistry accessible to everyone.

The clinic, says Abu Reya, is also intended for patients whose financial situation has not improved, but also for any patient who is not interested in paying excessive prices for his dental care.

"We have decided to make all dental care, and especially dental implants, accessible to the entire population, so that patients do not avoid undergoing important dental care. We are committed to prices around 30 percent of market prices and yet, we do not compromise on quality and professionalism."

Why do you place emphasis on dental implants?

"Most other treatments are usually simpler and cheaper, so most patients are able to afford the expenses involved. Dental implants are a longer and more complex treatment and therefore usually also more expensive, so people are more likely to give it up."

As part of the social approach, Abu Riya believes not only in making prices accessible but also in transparency and credibility with patients, and in revealing the truth behind some of the treatments and profits made in the field of dentistry.

"Dentistry has become a commercial field. When I first became acquainted with the prices of implants and crowns in the lab and realized what profit was left with the doctor - I realized that the prices, in some cases, are not sky high but even above. When people can not afford such amounts, they pay for it at a loss. Of additional teeth that might have been salvageable, and this happens even in the days of routine but especially in the present period "

How to reduce dental care costs in times of economic crisis

In order to reduce the costs of dental care as much as possible without sacrificing essential treatments, Abu Ria offers some important tips for patients:

• Do not postpone treatments - treatment that you postpone will only cost more later, and will also hurt more and require longer recovery time.

• Be sure to get tartar cleaning at the dentist according to the recommendations and periodic check-ups at the dentist, these will help the clinic staff identify problems at an early stage where the cost of treatment is also significantly lower.

• Ask to be as involved as possible in the expected treatment plan.

Do not be afraid to ask for explanations and ask questions to understand what are the reasons for performing each stage of treatment, why you need this treatment and what are the implications of each treatment.

• Do not be afraid to get another opinion and do not hesitate to consult another doctor in order to understand the alternatives available to you.

There may be other treatment methods that will be more effective and also amount to less costs.

• Make sure the dentist records the treatments you are undergoing - accurate documentation of everything done will avoid unnecessary unnecessary treatments.

This is especially important if you are switching between different dentists or going to different clinics at the same time.

• Ask your dentist or dental hygienist for guidance on maintaining daily hygiene and even product recommendations.

Be sure to follow the instructions you received as a regular part of the routine, they are intended solely for your benefit.
