(ANSA) - LONDON, MARCH 09 - After the outstretched hand of the palace and the recognition of the need to take their reasons seriously, the dukes of Sussex, Harry and Meghan, collect another image victory tonight.

The welcome to Piers Morgan, popular as well as controversial British journalist and anchorman forced to resign as host of Good Morning Britain, the much-followed ITV morning talk show, after having ended up in the storm for attacking Meghan head-on accusing her - without contradiction and without evidence - of in the recent explosive interview with the American CBS about his own suicidal thoughts and the feeling of racist subjugated attitudes against his son Archie at court.

    Morgan, known for his polemic-populist verve and his avowed dislike of Harry's wife, had proclaimed during the program that he "didn't believe a word" of the Duchess of Sussex.

One of the conductors, Alex Beresford, son of an African father, had replied live to his pistolotto, accusing him of being moved by prejudice.

A battibecco was born, followed by the blatant exit from the studio and then by the return of Piers.

But also from the statement by the broadcasters who said they were in tune with Beresford on the issue.

    Eventually Morgan announced his farewell to the show as confirmed by ITV in a cold-toned message in which the management made it known that they had accepted his resignation as appropriate and "have nothing to add".

The controversy is however destined to continue.

An NGO for the protection of mental health, Mind, had sided against Morgan, while 41,000 viewers had signed a petition in a few hours to ask for his removal from the screens;

in his defense of his professional ability and his right to express himself, supporters and TV stars have now intervened, such as BBC sports commentator and former English football legend Gary Lineker.
