Jacqueline Van Ovost has been selected to command UsTransportation Command, while Laura Richardson will lead UsSouthern Command, with expertise on South American operations.
If the two appointments are confirmed, the two officers will become the second and third women in US history to fill the role of 'Combatant commander', or lead a command defined by competence in geographical areas or functions. (HANDLE).
