The first deliveries of the Johnson & Johnson vaccine, developed by its subsidiary Janssen, should arrive in France "in April", according to the Ministry of the Economy.

In total, if the vaccine delivery schedule (dated March 1) was respected, nearly 17 million doses will have been delivered in the first quarter of 2021. A figure that should double at the end of April, with a total of 34.7 million. doses (cumulative from the start) which should have been delivered to France.

A green light expected from the European Medicines Agency

But before its arrival on French soil, the Johnson & Johnson vaccine must first obtain the necessary green light from the European Medicines Agency (EMA).

The Agency announced that it would meet on Thursday March 11 to agree to the deployment of the precious serum within the European Union.

This single injection vaccine and not requiring very low temperatures for its storage would be the fourth to be approved in the EU if it received the green light from the EMA.

Enough to speed up the campaign, while nearly 4 million people have received at least a first dose in three months.

The American pharmaceutical giant Johnson & Johnson had filed in February an application for authorization of its vaccine in the European Union.

The President of the European Commission Ursula von der Leyen then welcomed the filing of this request, stressing that the EU "would be ready to give its authorization as soon as the EMA has provided a positive scientific opinion".

“More safe and effective vaccines are coming,” she said.

The American Medicines Agency (FDA) granted emergency authorization for the Johnson & Johnson vaccine at the end of February.

According to documents transmitted by the FDA, this anti-Covid serum would be effective between 80 and 90% against severe forms of the disease.

As a reminder, the three vaccines authorized to date on the European market are those of AstraZeneca, Pfizer / BioNTech and Moderna.
