Of the 317,000 injections carried out Saturday and Sunday in France, more than 60% were carried out by firefighters.
"We have, Saturday and Sunday, allowed the vaccination of 200,000 people", explains to the Parisian, Grégory Allione, the boss of the National Federation of firefighters of France (FNSPF), who is now reaching out to start again ... and go further.
"We are convinced that firefighters have a role to play," explains Grégory Allione.
In 36 hours, we were able to set everything up in order to vaccinate on Saturday and Sunday.
"And the boss of the Federation to point out that the firefighters were already engaged at the start of the crisis to manage the logistics of the delivery of masks, as they have been mobilized for several weeks to organize the vaccination centers.
After a first call from the foot in January, then a second last week, the firefighters were massively put in the dance of vaccination this weekend, on the occasion of a mass vaccination wanted by the government.
For the moment, only the 12,000 doctors and nurses of the firefighters are ready to vaccinate the population, and are ready to start again the weekends to come, "if we ask them".
Firefighters, an essential link in massification?
In a perspective of "massification of vaccination", made possible by the opening to vaccination to other categories of people, and the delivery of the Johnson & Johnson vaccine, the firefighters feel just as ready.
"If we allow firefighters, who are already used to intervening in people or on emergency aid, it is a strike force of 250,000 firefighters that we are proposing.
"
For the time being, the decision to mobilize the firefighters has not yet been taken.
The government explained that it wanted to speed up vaccination, especially on weekends.
"The Ministry of the Interior defends and shares our point of view, Emmanuel Macron understood that we could be a real weapon", explains Grégory Allione.
The decision could be decided on Wednesday in the Defense Council ... at least for next weekend.
