Several almond packs and trail mix are being recalled nationwide because they may contain bitter almonds.

There is a risk of health consequences.

Schwarzenbek nuts are versatile and a popular baking product.

But almonds, walnuts, hazelnuts and the like are also popular products for snacking in between.

But be careful: several nut packs are now being recalled.

The cause are so-called bitter almonds.

The public recall of goods comes from Carl Wilhelm Clasen GmbH, a company for organic products from Schwarzenbek in Schleswig-Holstein.

The portal Lebensmittelwarnung.de of the Federal Office for Consumer Protection and Food Safety issues a warning.

A total of five products are affected:

  • Clasen organic almond kernels 200g, batch 70108662, best before date (best before) December 15, 2021

  • Edeka organic almonds 200g, best before November 23, 2021

  • Edeka organic trail mix, 200g, best before January 23, 2022

  • Clasen organic nut kernel mix 200g, batch 70110732, best before October 27, 2021

  • Clasen Bio Premium trail mix 125g, batch 70109372, best before 25 September 2021

According to the recall *, it cannot be ruled out that there are individual bitter almonds in the packs with the best-before dates listed above.

“Bitter almonds naturally have a high amygdalin content.

Hydrocyanic acid is released from amygdalin during consumption and digestion, ”explains the manufacturer.

The consequences can be severe headaches, vomiting, nausea and other symptoms of intoxication.

Recall of organic almonds and trail mix: the background is bitter almonds

As the name suggests, bitter almonds can be recognized by their distinct bitter taste.

Clasen therefore strongly advises against consuming the products.

Other best-before dates and other items from the brands mentioned above are not affected.

Clasen and the trading companies concerned reacted immediately and, as a precaution, removed the relevant goods from sale.

This is why hna.de * is also reporting on the nationwide recall of nut products.

According to the press release, the articles were offered nationwide in some shops:

  • akzenta GmbH & Co KG

  • Citti Markets GmbH & Co KG

  • Edeka

  • Famila Handelsmarkt Kiel GmbH & Co KG

  • FrischParadies GmbH & Co. KG

  • HIT Handelsgruppe GmbH & Co KG

  • Michael Brücken Kaufpark GmbH & Co. OHG

  • Real GmbH

  • Rewe Markt GmbH

  • Transgourmet Deutschland GmbH & Co OHG

Clasen recall of organic almonds and trail mix - reimbursement also possible without receipt

Clasen draws attention to the fact that customers can return the corresponding products in the shops in their stores - for a refund of the purchase price and also without presenting the receipt.

Clasen's customer service department answers consumer inquiries on 04151/8329588 (Monday to Sunday 8 a.m. to 8 p.m.) or by email: rueckruf@cwclasen.de.

Callbacks are not uncommon.
