AOSTA - From 10 March to 15 April the appointment at the Forte di Bard returns with the exhibition "World Press Photo 2020", the most prestigious photojournalism award in the world that collects the most significant images of the year, enhancing their fundamental role as historical testimony of our time.

Now in its 63rd edition, the award was created in 1955.

On display, within the Opera Mortai, there will be the 140 winning and most representative images of 2019, divided into eight different categories: Contemporary issues, Environment, General news, Long Term Projects, Spot news, Nature, Portraits, Sport and Spot news.

The photographs were chosen by a jury of international experts who examined the works of 4,282 photographers from 125 countries for a total of 73,996 images.

44 photographers arrived in the final, from 24 countries (including six Italians).

The winner was the Japanese Yasuyoshi Chiba with the shot 'Straight Voice' which portrays a young man, illuminated by the cell phones of his companions, reciting poems during a protest demanding a democratic government for Sudan, during a blackout in Khartoum, on June 19, 2019.

The French Romain Laurendeau won the "World Press Photo Story of the Year" award with 'Kho, The Genesis of Revolt', a reportage that recounts the profound unease of the Algerian youth who gave life to the largest protest movement in Algeria in recent decades.
