MOVIE.

Simply hilarious

At 9:10 p.m., on Canal +.

The (good) surprise of the summer movies arrives on TV tonight.

"Simply black" by Jean-Pascal Zadi and John Wax is the story of JP, a 40-year-old failed actor who decides to organize the first big black protest march in France.

JP goes to meet influential personalities (Fary, Lilian Thuram, JoeyStarr, Claudia Tagbo, Soprano…), without stopping to run the castings.

But he has a hard time federating and sees his militant commitment confronted with his desire for notoriety ...

Designed as a mock documentary, the film features some hilarious moments, such as when Eric Judor takes himself for Martin Luther King after swearing he was not black or Vikash Dhorasoo, annoyed at not being considered black, promises to launch an “Indian march”.

One of the most squeaky scenes sees Lucien Jean-Baptiste getting loose with Fabrice Eboué about their respective films ...

Some sequences are darker, like those where the hero is attacked by the police.

In the end, “Tout Simply Noir” demonstrates the complexity of “black identity” in a very contemporary, punchy and caustic way.

Released in theaters on July 7, this low-budget comedy directed by little-known filmmakers received very good reviews and won over 760,000 spectators.

On October 26, the film was even screened at the Elysee Palace.

And this Friday, “Simply Black” will be in the running for two Césars: Best First Film and Best Male Hope for its main actor and co-director Jean-Pascal Zadi.

Chronologically, this 120-minute survey presented by Julien Bugier sets out to retrace the main and most spectacular actions of the Raid.

In particular the first, in 1985, to free a whole court taken hostage in Nantes by three robbers.

But also and of course, the intervention in kindergarten in Neuilly, with his surprise guest Nicolas Sarkozy, to neutralize "Human Bomb".

Or the Merah affair and the hunt for Yvan Colonna.

Built around numerous testimonies, in particular from the famous Commissioner Broussard, archive and 3D images as well as reconstructions, this fascinating documentary from start to finish plunges back to the heart of major criminal cases

Successful tribute to Black Lives Matter

At 9:05 pm on TF 1.

The American series “SWAT” ends its third season this Tuesday evening with the pursuit of a drug trafficker called El Diablo.

A muscular and panting hunt faithful to the usual tone of this supercharged fiction.

The evening continues with the start of season 4 and its first episode called "Black Lives Matter".

It starts during a demonstration in March 2020 following the death of George Floyd.

While the trial of the police officer accused of having killed him has just started across the Atlantic, this particularly successful section looks back on the dark history of the United States concerning police violence against the black community.

And in particular on the death of Rodney King in 1991 and the riots which had ignited Los Angeles a year later during the acquittal of the four police officers involved.

The hero of "SWAT", Hondo Harrelson, played by Shemar Moore, is himself black and his personal questions give a real depth to the subject of this episode as striking as it is moving.

EDITOR'S RATING: 4/5

“SWAT”

, American series by Shawn Ryan and Aaron Rahsaan Thomas with Shemar Moore, Jay Harrington… Season 3, episode 21 and season 4, episode 1. 2 x 42 minutes.

Dog and cat in Auvergne

Michel Cymes and Dounia Coesens in the TV movie "La doc et le véto".

Nicolas ROBIN - FTV

At 9:05 pm on France 3.

It started badly for Emma, a young doctor who arrived from Paris to work for three years in a medical desert in order to guarantee her scholarship!

Broken down on a small road in Auvergne, she was hit by Pierre, the local veterinarian.

Then discovers that she will have to share with him the office and the accommodation in an old school in the small village of Valerande-les-Chantelle.

Suffice to say that the cohabitation between the local child and the Parisian promises sparks.

Emma's installation rhymes with setbacks, a visit to a breeder whose wife is going to give birth and who tries to hide the death of two sheep, a sign of a possible epidemic on the farm.

Nothing very original in this intrigue led by an omnipresent Michel Cymes and more at ease than during his first fictional role in “Meurtres en pays d'Oléron” in March 2018… Without avoiding clichés, this TV movie nevertheless guarantees a good breath of air thanks to beautiful images of the volcanoes of Auvergne and the surrounding countryside.

EDITOR'S RATING: 3/5
