“We test schools through wastewater,” says Philippe Juvin, mayor of La Garenne-Colombes.

This is the first time in France that schools have tracked down Covid-19 in wastewater.

The city of Hauts-de-Seine participates in the “Covid City Watch” program set up by the Suez group.

A program that can detect traces of Covid-19 in wastewater during the incubation period.

"It is an extremely effective means of surveillance," adds the mayor, especially since it allows you to be one step ahead of the Covid.

It can be spotted a week before the onset of symptoms in infected people.

And this is also the case for asymptomatic people.

Each week, two school groups, namely André-Marsault and René-Guest, take samples and have them analyzed.

"These establishments were chosen because their pipes are identifiable and therefore allow very precise samples", indicates the elected representative in the double hat, since he is also a doctor and head of emergencies at the Georges-Pompidou European hospital.

Last week, traces of the virus were found in samples taken from the André Marsault school.

The mayor has decided to take this seriously and does not want to waste time.

Thursday or Friday, more than 500 children will take a saliva test to find out exactly where the contamination is in the school.
