Macho or stereotypes: Much of what you saw in film and television in the past would be viewed critically today.
It can be all the more disconcerting to watch episodes of the popular hits of the time.
This is probably what Amal Clooney is currently doing too.
According to her husband, the lawyer is watching the series "Emergency Room" for the first time in her life, with which George Clooney had his breakthrough in the 1990s.
The problem: The character was quite a riot.
Amal Clooney's methods are unlikely to go down well, says her husband on the podcast "Smartless" of actors Sean Hayes, Jason Bateman and Will Arnett.
"I'm getting into a lot of problems [with Amal]," Clooney says.
"I've forgotten the bad things I [as Doctor Doug Ross] did back then to tear up women."
Jason Bateman asks, amused, whether Amal has suddenly felt a whole new fanatic about him because of the series: "Like when you only look at something someone is famous for much later and suddenly feel very strange in their presence?"
"Yeah ... my wife isn't like that," Clooney says dryly, causing the three podcast hosts to laugh.
Aside from her critical view of George Clooney's early career, Amal apparently has a great influence on her husband.
When asked by Sean Hayes why the actor didn't get married and started a family earlier, the actor replies: “I met this impressive woman and she took my breath away.
She was brilliant, funny, beautiful and friendly - it blew me away! "
The two married less than a year after they met, "which probably surprised me more than anyone," says Clooney.
The couple now have three and a half year old twins.
“They are monsters.
Everything is destroyed in a second, ”says Clooney in his typically sarcastic way - but also adds how much fun he has the children.
